"Becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy at 25, and joining the 4% of Black physical therapists in this country, is not just a personal milestone. It’s a reflection of everything our family has poured into me — the love, the prayers, the sacrifices, and the stories of perseverance that taught me who I am.
I stand on the shoulders of those who didn’t always have the opportunities I’ve had, but who made a way so that I could. Every test I passed, every late night studying, every patient I’ll help — it’s not just my win, it’s our win."

What the Burton Family legacy means to me...
" To me what the Burton family legacy means is to support and welcome one another through whatever circumstances. For years this side of my family has continued to stick with me through every situation, good or bad. Whether it was making me feel included and valued at each family event, or checking in on my mom, siblings, and me; my relatives have continued to make an effort to show up in my life. This family has also shown the importance of treating everyone we meet with the same courtesy as we would with family. From seeing how my grandparents Syl and Gwen treat not only their friends but the people they work with the same loving attitude that they would a family member. I hope to approach my future in the same way as I am pursuing my goal of becoming a Doctor.
In that field I would want to make sure my patients are taken care of not only with their physical issues but also to be treated in the best way possible. More than just as a random stranger but someone I would connect with in order to help them and their loved ones through whatever issue is present. I hope to carry on this attitude throughout the different parts of my career and life, not just with the people I plan to directly help but my coworkers and friends. In this way I can help support the people in my overall community by extending the same love and care that my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins have shown to me. I hope to make them all proud and eventually contribute more support to them for all of the kindness that has been shown to me since I was a child.”
